Team Source Displays: Interview with Roger Luo, General Manager
Last August – on his visit to Europe – we had the opportunity to sit down with Roger Luo, general manager of Team Source Display. As one of the fastest growing display manufacturers out there, we were curious to find out what Roger’s and TSD’s focus is growing the company over the next few years.
Firstly, a little background information on TSD’s front man.
Before joining TSD in the Chinese metropole of Shenzhen, Roger worked at Hongkong based Varitronix. In 2010 Roger joined the family owned company to focus on taking it to the next level. Today, Roger’s former employer (now) BOE Varitronix and TSD are strong business partners in the display industry.
When asking Roger about his growth plans for the upcoming years, he passionately talked about the five focus areas he always keeps in mind when strengthening his business. At the top of the list: TSD’s employees.
Employees as the heart of the company
Roger: “Our employees are the heart of the company and are key to the success of TSD. We absolutely see it as our duty to take care of them and make sure they are comfortable and happy working at TSD. Many of our employees live a great distance away from their families. They choose careers in cities like Shenzhen to provide for their family members living in the suburbs or even in the countryside. We understand the impact this can have on them. One of the things we ask them to do is to take a great family photo, frame it and put it on their desk. It’s a small gesture, but we hope this makes them feel supported. Our employees’ wellbeing is our top priority.”
TSD is a people focused company. They value their customers and work towards providing them the best support possible on a daily basis.
Support from start to finish
“We aim to provide the best support to our customers in every aspect of the project”, Roger explains. “We work together with customers to ensure they achieve their goals and production runs smoothly and efficiently.”
Roger continues by explaining how far TSD will go in supporting their customers: “As many of our customers will confirm, we continually dedicate resources to help customers solve any obstacle or challenge they run into when applying one of our display solutions. If they are confronted with firmware or driver problems, mechanical difficulties or specific tests, we will always offer them to send us their system to make it work.”
Quality: IATF 16949 certification
TSD aims to go above and beyond every aspect of doing business. Whether it’s upping the level of support or going the extra mile on quality. Roger believes prioritizing quality of displays will save TSD, its partners and customers both time and money.
“Our quality focus goes beyond the requirements needed for most of our customers”, Roger begins. “This summer we passed the highest quality test for automotive display production. We are now IATF 16949 certified. Receiving this certification not only shows our high-quality standards on paper, but also keeps our team focused on quality from start to finish. For each project and customer order.”
The right product, for the right price
Roger continues: “We always offer competitive and market conform pricing for our displays. However, our main focus is to find, select and offer the best fitting display product for our customer’s design. We make sure the product is not only today’s top choice, but meets their requirements for the years to come. This helps us avoid many unwanted and additional costs for our customers. We get it right the first time.”
TSD sees their customers’ success as their own.
Future growth
TSD is on the right track to becoming a key player in the display manufacturing industry. They look forward to the future and have a clear vision on how to grow in a competitive field.
Roger explains: “We will continue to invest in the company, and we will do this as shareholders. We definitely prefer a solid and safe growth path opposed to a fast and unstable rise. We want to provide our customers with stability.”
Production is a focus area of TSD. “Investing in highly automated production with well-trained employees is what works for us. This concept has proven to offer stable and high-quality production for our customers so far. So not letting production quality slip while growing is very important to us.”
“Next to that we will continue to expand to other areas worldwide. Offices in the USA and Europe will be realised in the near future. This offers our customers local engineering and logistics support. And in their own time zone.”
If you ask us, it’s these five focus areas that TSD approaches in such a unique way, that sets them aside from the competition. In the years to come TSD will become a key manufacturer for customers in industrial, medical, measurement, automotive and home appliance industries.
Roger concludes: “The strength of Chinese and Western values optimizes the cooperation with customers and partners. This helps us build long term business relationships with joined successes.”
